Graduate Student Researcher, University of Pittsburgh, Department of Geology and Environmental Science, May 2014 – December 2014; May 2015 – present
- Column chromatography, mass spectrometry, lipid extraction, etc.; Keeping the lab and its equipment cleaned and stocked; Assist in overseeing training of new students/staff; Data processing and interpretation; Field work
- Classes: Introduction to Geology recitation, Environmental Geology recitation, Planets recitation, Geology of the National Parks recitation, and History of the Earth laboratory
- Create/administer quizzes, organize and create laboratory/recitation exercises/projects, grade quizzes, exercises, attend lectures, proctor exams, and gave lectures during instructor’s absence;
- Revamped and individually lead the History of the Earth laboratory to make the class better fit the requirements = and to amplify the important takeaways of the course.
- Pollen and charcoal analyses; Field work – including grab samples, vegetation surveys, lake coring, augering, etc.

EDUCATION

- Dissertation focuses organic geochemistry and paleoclimate using biomarkers and corresponding isotopes
- Involvement in department:
- Graduate Student Representative (2013-2014) – liason between graduate students and faculty; participated in faculty meetings, and organized graduate student opinion and concerns to improve the department
- Departmental Graduate Student Organization – Sub-committee chair for renovation committee, and working to put together and organize a departmental research fair
- Currently organizing a support group for graduate students within the department to set goals and strive past common issues in academia including impostor syndrome.
VOLUNTEERING AND OUTREACH
Refugee Youth Mentor, South Hills Interfaith Ministries, December 2015 to present
- Working with high school girls – focusing group meetings on career development, useful discussions about integration and culture, and planning activities to give the students a fun, safe place to go.
- Coconino High School, Flagstaff, AZ – 2011; St. Michael-Albertville High School, St. Michael, MN – 2011 (4 classes); Saltsburg Jr Sr High School, Saltsburg, PA – 2013
- Assisted in the rehabilitation of a young Atlantic Spotted Dolphin found abandoned by its pod, recorded observations for 2-4 hour intervals, and assisted in feeding and natural interactions with the dolphin
